Ksenija Prohaska was born in Split , Croatia . After majoring in English, German and Italian at the University of Rijeka, Ksenija moved to Zagreb to study at the Academy of Dramatic Arts where she graduated at the top of her class. While still studying at the Academy, Ksenija started to work at the Croatian National Theatre.
In the course of seven years, she played 22 different roles, mostly classics such as Greek tragedies, Shakespeare, Goldoni, Ibsen, Strindberg, Lorca etc.
In 1987 Ksenija moved to Los Angeles where she acted in the theatre, TV and motion pictures. She played the role of Marlene Dietrich in Bary Levinson's Bugsy (1991) opposite great actors such as Warren Beatty, Joe Mantegna, Ben Kingsley and Harvey Keitel. In Hollywood and Europe she played in 12 motion pictures and many TV series (IMDb).
She returned to Croatia in 1999 and became a member of the Croatian National Theatre in Split . Her first great success was Marlene Dietrich, a play originally written for Ksenija Prohaska, which was performed more than 200 times in three different languages and 12 countries on three different continents. The audiences all over the world have always been overwhelmed by the brilliance of Ksenija's interpretation of Marlene Dietrich, which numerous national and international awards can testify.
In 2001, Ksenija went on to play the leading role in a major theatrical production of The Rose Tattoo of the Croatian National Theatre in Split , which won her national acclaim as the best actress in the leading role. The Rose Tattoo received ten top national awards, was sold out weeks in advance and the applause of the audiences was known to last up to half an hour.
In 2003 she went to the National Theatre “Ivan Zajc” in Rijeka to play Filumena Marturano by Eduardo de Filippo, and one more time managed to have a theatrical hit sold out and awarded with 12 awards on the national level. Ksenija as Filumena again received brilliant reviews and the exhilaration of the audiences, as well as an invitation from Piccolo Teatro di Milano, one of the most distinguished European theatres, where she performed for four days in a row.
In 2005 Ksenija was a guest at the Mittelfest, a major international theatre festival in Italy , where she was greeted with standing ovations. The reviews were nothing short of brilliant and Ksenija won the most prestigious award Adelaide Ristori as the best leading actress at Mittelfest in a rather fierce competition with actresses from 20 European countries. Besides being a great actress, Miss Prohaska is also an accomplished singer. She has performed in many world known theatres and music halls such as Vatroslav Lisinski in Zagreb, House of Blues in Los Angeles and Auditorium della musica - Teatro del Parco in Rome. Her repertoire ranges from the French chancon and American blues and jazz to Hollywood film music. In 2006 Ksenija held numerous concerts in which she interpreted the songs of legendary Edith Piaf and Billie Holiday, after which a Croatian record company offered her a contract.
In October 2006 she performed Marlene Dietrich at the most famous off-Broadway theatre La Mama, where some of the greatest names in theatre business played. In the same month Ksenija Prohaska played the leading role in Mutter Courage by Bertolt Brecht at the International Sarajevo Theatre Festival MESS.
In the past seven years she was a winner of major international festivals and became the most awarded theatrical actress in Croatia for her outstanding performances such as Marlene Dietrich, The Rose Tattoo, Filumena Marturano, The Tempest, Mother Courage and Billie Holiday.
